Our kids classes offer training in the "CORE" fundamentals of several fighting arts. Below is a brief listing of the arts that have most influenced our kids CORE curriculum.
Pekiti Tirsia Tactical Association & Inosanto Kali (Filipino Martial Arts): Most known for it's reality based weapon's training, F.M.A. also provides training in empty hand fighting "panan-tukan/diakan" (kick-boxing), "dumog" (grappling), and various other areas of combat. This art emphasizes angles of attack, economy of movement, and fluid use of multiple weapons. "Core" concepts from the arts of Inosanto Kali, Pekiti Tirsia Kali, and Madjapahit Silat integrated into the curriculum and consistently taught at I.M.A. Academy.
Jiu-Jitsu (Grappling): This is an age old art with a history in every major culture. B.J.J., made famous by the Gracie family of Brazil emphasizes the efficient use of body mechanics, physics, and joint manipulation to use an attacker’s force against him or herself. Fundamental techniques and concepts from the grappling arts of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Shinki Ryu JuJitsu, Combat Submission Wrestling, and Filipino Dumog/Buno are taught at I.M.A. Academy.
Kick-Boxing: Highly developed in Thailand, this art is often referred to as the “science of eight limbs.” One is trained to strike with kicks, knees, punches, and elbows. This art also utilizes the clinching of the head ("Plumm" position) to control an opponent and use various strikes. Some fundamental techniques and concepts from Muay Thai - Kick Boxing and Filipino Kick - Boxing (panan-tukan/diakan) are taught at I.M.A. Academy.
Kung Fu / Gung Fu: is an art originating from China. Concepts and techniques from Jun Fan Gung Fu (JKD) and Chang Quan are taught at I.M.A. Academy. Jun Fan Gung Fu / Jeet Kune Do ("way of intercepting fist"), originally developed by the late Bruce Lee, emphasizes the ongoing research of various fighting methods and self expression. American Shaolin Chang Quan, ("long fist"), developed by Master David William Terrence, emphasizes multiple strikes, animal like movements, and the understanding of the universal pattern of self-defense.
Iaido / Kenjitsu: Developed in Japan, these arts sharpen the mind and train the mind and body to act as one unit. Iaido focuses on the drawing of the sword in order to efficiently execute a cut. Kenjitsu focuses on the use of the katana (sword) once it is drawn. Some fundamental techniques and concepts from the specific art of Hiden Mugei Ryu are taught at I.M.A. Academy.
